Among the Club’s objective are two that we work hard to realize, and we are never quite sure whether we are accomplishing much, and those two objectives are:
- To encourage people to dive safely more often
- To recognize the efforts people put into diving.
We have had for a number of years, the Len LaFreniere Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Contributions to the BSC, awarded annually. But this recognizes only one person each year. We looked for something a little broader in scope and came up with our brand spanking new BSC 5 Star program.
With this program we hope to entice divers to make “just one more dive so I can get……” and then we will recognize that effort with a certificate. I stress that this is not a certification program although it might recognize a person’s efforts to become certified in a number of areas. It is intended to salute those who reach certain milestones — diving in five Saskatchewan lakes for example, or on five reefs somewhere in the world. A pat on the back so to speak!
So here is how it works. You submit a copy of the log sheets highlighting your achievement and we issue you a certificate and place your name on our Wall of Fame (virtual). Ideally, it would be going forward from this time, but realistically, there are some trips, some places, some times that will never be duplicated so it is okay to reach back into your archives and pull out that trip to Truk Lagoon, Australia, Antarctica or the Maldives, or to Sawmill Lake here at home. For any of the 5 Star Certificates that involve training, it should be noted that the training does not have to be done locally — simply send us a copy of your certification and it will work.
And we are flexible with this program — if you think of something we should add along these lines, please let us know and we will consider it.
Have a look at it, give it some thought and then get serious about it. To whom will the first BSC 5 Star certificate be issued.
Let’s get diving!!
